Now that you have those beautiful, clear Invisalign® aligners, you’ll want to keep them looking good and invisible while they are straightening your teeth. Isn’t that the reason you got them in the first place? Below are some to-don’t list tips:
Don’t Eat With Them In:
While it may certainly feel like you could keep them in while eating soft foods and drinking liquids, this is a definite no-no. Why, you ask? It is because hot foods and drink could warp the aligner, and there are many items that can discolor them, losing their cloak of invisibility. You’ll need to take them out to rinse and clean them out afterwards anyway, so just avoid the hassle by removing them prior to ingestion. There is only one thing your orthodontist will allow you to drink without taking them out. Cool water.
Don’t Use Toothpaste or Colored Cleaning Products:
Don’t use toothpaste or colored products to clean you aligner. Use only clear antibacterial soaps and soaking materials. Soaking them in colored mouthwash is not a good idea. Such colored items will stain the aligner. Toothpaste contains abrasive materials and can in fact scratch the surface of your aligner which will show up clearly when you put them on. Another item to avoid.
Don’t Leave Them on the Bathroom Counter:
Leaving them out is a risk for loss, breakage, germ transference, and the practical jokes of your little brother. You’ve spent a lot of money to get them, so don’t mistreat them by allowing them to be vulnerable. Keep them in a safe place when you are not wearing them in your mouth.
